I think using the blog as a reminder for both the students and the parents is one of the great ways to use blogs for education. Also, I really like how you are using it to reinforce the many things that are going on in your classroom.
Hello Ms. Tracy! I'm sorry for responding so late to your question, What will students be doing with play money? I organized an activity in which students looked through toy magazines from the store 5 Below. In pairs, students took turns purchasing their favorite toy with their play money and their partner practiced distributing the correct change. The goal of this exercise was to allow students to practice buying items and calculating the correct amount of change. This ties in with subtracting with decimals. I chose 5 Below since items from this store are 5 dollars and less. I thought this was a good starting point before we work with larger numbers.
